We Made LeFou’s Brew!

Do you ever get a craving for some of that delicious Disney food? I know we do. And as much as I would love to just hop in the car to go get some whenever we get a craving, it’s not exactly practical.

So, what do we do instead?

We make it ourselves

…or at least we attempt to

What is LeFou’s Brew? This apple/mango/passion fruit concoction is sold at Gaston’s Tavern in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. You know the area…it features a statue of Gaston and his sidekick, LeFou, just outside of the Tavern. FYI: Gaston’s Tavern is a Quick Service Restaurant for those with the Dining Plan

For those of you who have gone to Disneyland and think this sounds familiar, you’re right! The same exact drink can be found at Disneyland, but instead of it being called LeFou’s Brew, it is called Red’s Apple Freeze! You can find these in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. If I’m not mistaken, you can find Red’s Apple Freeze in Cozy Cone #4.

These are the REAL Things!

So, before we get started on how WE made our drink, I have to give credit to the people who had the recipe, The Disney Diner. If you’re looking for a copycat recipe, they probably have it!

So, I went to the store and got everything I needed to make LeFou’s Brew. Unfortunately, I had to make a few substitutions, but it still tasted delicious.

Don’t mind my Keurig in the background. I have NO counter space! I keep telling myself that the next house we get, it’s going to have a TON of counter space because this drives me nuts!

Foam Topping Ingredients:
1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
4 tablespoons Mango Nectar/Juice  (I had to substitute for a Mango Blend)
4 tablespoons Passion Fruit Juice
3 tablespoons sugar

We went a little heavier on the foam when we were building our drink than you would normally see at Disney, but that’s because we had so much! Besides, who can have too much of that stuff? It’s delicious!

Apple Slush Ingredients:
2 (12 ounce) cans of frozen no-sugar added apple juice concentrate (keep frozen until ready to use)
12 ounces cold water
3 squirts (or tablespoons) Toasted Marshmallow Syrup (I had to substitute for a Vanilla Syrup)
I mixed up all of the ingredients together in a mixing bowl and got mixing. I whipped and whipped and whipped until I finally had the consistency I wanted for the foam topping and placed it in the fridge while I worked on the Slush.
To be fair, the Recipe did say that it would be easier (and faster) if I had put my bowl was chilled, but I was so busy that I forgot to do this step. Oh well…

Again, I put all of the ingredients in my blender and mixed it all up. Compared to the Foam, this took no time at all.

The only difference I made to this recipe is that I added a few ice cubes to thicken it up a little. But, that’s just because I like my slushes thicker. This is totally optional!

The boys couldn’t help but use their cups from our last trip! It IS a Disney drink, after all!

Of course, it’s not the same as the real thing, but it’ll have to do until we can get back “home”.
