Alien Swirling Saucers…And Addressing The Name Change Rumor

With all the talk swirling around about Slinky Dog Dash, it’s easy to overlook Alien Swirling Saucers – the second Brand New ride that will open in Toy Story Land this Summer.
While it’s easy to tell exactly what type of ride Slinky Dog Dash is going to be, Alien Swirling Saucers has always been a bit of a mystery to me. Is it going to be like the Tea Cups or Bumper Cars (although I thought this was unlikely, you never know…)? Up until now, the only concept art I saw just showed the building in which the ride will be housed, but not the ride itself.
But now that the latest artwork has been released, we’ve got a clearer picture on what to expect from Alien Swirling Saucers.
It may just be me, but it looks like we should be expecting a ride similar to Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree in Disney’s California Adventure. Is anyone else seeing what I’m seeing?
Whatever it ends up being, I am excited! Not only am I a kid at heart when it comes to rides, it is something I can see my whole family riding.
When is Toy Story Land Opening?
Update 2/16/18: Toy Story Land will be opening June 30, 2018!!
Sorry to disappoint you, but Disney has not released an opening date for Toy Story Land yet. Trust me…the Travel Agent World has been trying to find out the details and even we haven’t gotten any additional information, including any possible Opening Dates. Sorry guys…we tried…
I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some soft openings and Annual Passholder Previews around the beginning to middle of May and an official opening date at the end of May, just in time for the end of the school year and the beginning of Peak Season. Disney has been known to sometimes do soft opening up to 2 months prior to official openings, so it’s even possible we may see some soft openings as soon as April. However, this is just my opinion, so I could be completely wrong. Please don’t base this on any secret knowledge I may have gotten.
From what I have seen and heard, construction for the Brand New Entrance for Toy Story Mania inside Toy Story Land is already starting to take place, which is a good indicator that everything going on behind those gates is moving along nicely. Due to the popularity of the ride, Hollywood Studios expanded this ride to 3 tracks, but with the construction going on, one of the tracks is not currently running. Unfortunately, this has resulted in even longer lines than usual to Toy Story Midway Mania. It makes sense that Disney knew this would happen, so they saved this construction for last.
According to Cast Members, Toy Story Mania Fastpasses will not be available April 9th through May 7th 2018, so the only way to ride will be through Standby. It is also likely that only one track will be running during this time, as well. Yikes… I would say that if Toy Story Mania is a must-do for your family, getting to Hollywood Studios early and making a mad dash to the ride first thing in the morning may be the only opportunity to beat the crowds during this time. Otherwise, be prepared for a super long line.

Will Hollywood Studios be changing their name again?
In response to the rumors going around about whether Disney plans on changing Disney’s Hollywood Studios to another name, Disney has officially come out with a statement addressing this rumor.
“Disney’s Hollywood Studios name will remain the same for the foreseeable future since we are immersing Guests in a place where imagined worlds of Hollywood unfold around them from movies and music, to television and theater.”
