We Went Dolphin Watching!

**This is NOT a sponsored post nor am I affiliated with BayWatch Dolphin Tours.

Summer is coming to an end just as quickly as it came. We’ve had a great time swimming and using our season passes to our local water park and the Houston Zoo. But this time, we decided to do something that we haven’t done in a very long time. We saw wild dolphins swimming around in their natural habitat. OMG what an amazing sight!

Since we had done it many years ago, we knew there was a boat that would take us out to see the dolphins. But, of course, we had no idea what the name of the Tour was. So, we hopped onto the computer, and after a quick Google search, we found BayWatch Dolphin Tours in Galveston, TX.

The boats leave every hour between 10am and 5pm. And with a price of $10 per adult and $5 per child between the ages 2 and 12, we thought it was a great value, as well.

Because you can only fit 36 Passengers on the boat, I would suggest going as early as possible if you want to get on a boat right away. We showed up around 11:30 am, expecting to get on the boat leaving at noon. Unfortunately, when we got to the booth, we were told that the next boat with enough seats to hold my family of 4 was at 2pm.

No big deal! We weren’t in a big rush, so we spent the next 2 hours walking around Downtown Galveston and going into the little shops near the Pier. Of course, we took every opportunity to get out of the hot sun.

No jumping or performing for these dolphins!

We spent the next 45 minutes listening to our amazing Captain teach us a little bit about Galveston and the ships that were docked. And of course, he did whatever he could to lead us to where the dolphins were most likely hanging out.

Just watching them swim around without human interaction was beautiful. And with no propeller on the boat to hurt the dolphins, we were able to get close to them without risking their safety.

Whenever anyone saw a fin come to the surface, the whole boat got super excited. How could you not get excited? They’re dolphins!

Fun for the whole family

The only thing I will say is that if you have small children, you may want to bring something along to entertain them. As excited as they are to see the dolphins, they’re wild, therefore they’re also unpredictable. There will be times where you will not see any, so this is where the History Lessons will come in. Even with the Captain trying to keep their interest with dolphin-themed corny jokes, they will lose interest without those adorable dolphins to look at.

As for the adults, you will be pleasantly entertained. Even when I tuned out to what the Captain was saying, I just soaked in my surroundings. I love the water and found the light swaying of the boat to be very relaxing. We even chuckled at the pelicans dive-bombing the water. Really, guys? Do you have to hit the water that hard?

We had a great time, even if it did take 2 hours for us to get there!

If you’re ever in the Houston Area, I highly recommend checking out BayWatch Dolphin ToursYou won’t be disappointed.
