As we’re tying up the loose ends for our next Walt Disney World Vacation, all that keeps going through my mind is all the months of planning that has gone into this vacation. In fact, we had this vacation booked before I even left for my Disney World Vacation last year. Yup…we’re those people. Lol. So, it’s so surreal that after all these months, the day is almost here.
Although we’ve been planning for many months, many of you want to know…
Is it possible to plan a magical Walt Disney World vacation last minute?
Yes, planning a last minute Disney World trip is completely possible.
Of course, it’s easier for some than for others. If you have it in your mind exactly what you need to do on your vacation, you may be in for a disappointment. But, that can also be true with plenty of planning, as well.
Although we originally booked this Vacation Package 12+ months ago, would you believe that we still weren’t able to grab that Slinky Dog Dash fastpass that we wanted? Yup…even with doing everything “right”, those fastpasses were completely booked up by the time our fastpass window opened up at 7 AM (EST) 60 days before check in. Are we bummed? Of course. But, it’s not going to ruin our vacation.
What can you do to make sure that last minute trip is a success?
Pay attention to the Deals
Planning last minute doesn’t mean paying full price. There are always deals going on. Some are just advertised more than others.
All Deals have “Book Through” and “Travel Through” dates, as well as some exclusion of Resorts or rooms within qualifying Resorts. Pay attention to those details and you’ll save yourself some (or a lot of) money.
You may not be able to find a discount at every Resort last minute, but the good news is that there are plenty of Resorts and rooms on Disney Property. Since Disney only allots a certain number of rooms to be booked with certain promotions, you may have to look for other promotions or another Resort altogether. But, there will always be a room available somewhere. Just keep looking. You can always cancel that more expensive room if a better deal becomes available.
Fastpass+ and Dining Reservations
This is where people start to lose faith that last minute trips can also be magical. Who wants to wait hours in line for rides and not be able to get a seat at their favorite restaurants?
Keep checking My Disney Experience! Guests are always changing their minds, making popular fastpasses and Dining Reservations available with very little notice. It’s not a guarantee that you will find what you’re looking for, but it doesn’t hurt to look.
Walking up to the Podium and asking has also worked for some Guests, even when there is no availability online. At the end of the day, it’s all a matter of how lucky you are.
There will never be absolutely no fastpasses or Dining Reservations for you to choose from. Just because the one you’re looking for may not be available, there will be plenty of other rides and Restaurants to book.

Even if you’re the “winging it” type of person, you may still want to do a little bit of planning.
Occasionally, there will be a Hard Ticketed Event (Parties, After Hour Events, etc). If you don’t have a ticket, you may want to plan your days around them. It’s takes just a few minutes to see what’s going on and it saves you the frustration of finding out last minute that you have to leave the Park early.
We also like to use crowd calendars to help us determine which days we will be spending in which Park. It’s not fool-proof, since Guests tend to change up their schedules last minute. But, they do a great job at predicting the crowds based on past experiences.

Even if you only use these 2 methods, and nothing else, you may find that you didn’t need to plan anything else.
