If you missed The Star Wars Show Life from Chicago, there are a few new things that we learned about Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge.
If you’re like me, you were glued to your tv or computer screen to see what new information would be released. And while I fully expected that Disney wouldn’t release all of their secrets, the more I heard, the more excited I got.
So, although all of my questions have yet to be answered, one thing is for sure…
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is going to be awesome!
What We Learned About Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge From The Star Wars Celebration
Magic of the Future
Play Disney App
If you’ve been to Walt Disney World or Disneyland, you most likely already have the App on your phone. When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens, the App will update to add the Star Wars universe into the App.
But, even if you have already used the Play Disney App to interact with other attractions in the Disney Parks, this is going to be a completely different experience.
The interaction of the Play Disney App and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is going to be nothing like you’ve ever seen before.
Your phone will turn into a Star Wars Data Pad. Using this Data Pad, there will be 4 key functions that you will use to interact with Galaxy’s Edge.
The key functions will help you Hack, Scan, Translate, and Tune objects throughout the Star Wars Universe.
- Hack – Interact with droids, lights, and props
- Scan – Scan cargo crates around Batuu to discover what is inside them
- Translate – Use your phone to translate text written in Aurebesh into English
- Tune – You can eavesdrop on different stories and conversations
To further your immersion into the Star Wars Universe, there will be an interactive game called Outpost Control.
Surveillance devices have been installed. Your choices effect the way the story unveils around you, so you must decide…
Will you help the light side or the dark side?
Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run
Smuggler’s Run will open with the Grand Opening of Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida.
Live out your dreams of flying the Millennium Falcon
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to fly the Millennium Falcon, this is your chance.
While simulated rides are nothing new for Disney (Soarin’, Flight of Passage, and Star Tours may come to mind), there is something spectacular about this new attraction that has never been seen before.
You actually control the Millennium Falcon
Yeah…you heard right. And since there are so many variables that can take place on this attraction, no two experiences will be the same.
Pilots will have to maneuver around obstacles.
Gunners will have to defend the ship, using blasters.
And the engineers will need to make real-time repairs, so you can continue your journey.
Your choices predict your outcome
Whether or not your flight crew is successful is completely up to you and your fellow Guests.
If you are successful in your mission, your hallway to the exit will be pristine and flawless.
If you were unsuccessful, your hallway will be broken, with the sounds of broken electrical lines and the views of the inside of a banged up Millennium Falcon.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
Rise of the Resistance will not open with the Grand Opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in either Disneyland or Walt Disney World. Details about when Rise of the Resistance will open will be released at a later date.
If Smugglers Run sounds epic, Rise of the Resistance will knock your socks off. This attractions is set to be “the most epic attraction that anyone has ever done.” You can just see the emotion on the Imagineers’ faces when they speak of Rise of the Resistance.
You will join the resistance, ending up as a prisoner of the first order. You will come face to face with familiar faces, such as Kylo Ren, Rey, and even BB-8.
You must take on the Dark Side and if you win, you will be celebrated and hailed as a hero throughout Galaxy’s Edge (not just the attraction, itself!)
The rumor going around is that Rise of the Resistance will be a multi-experience attraction, taking you through 4 different “attractions” over approximately 28-minutes!
If you know me, I don’t like to spread these rumors unless I find proof from Disney. Well, I’ve scoured the internet trying to find confirmation of this rumor. And although the independent reports seem consistent with each other, none of their sources have seemed to come right from Disney.
However…According to D23, your journey will take you inside a full-size starship and aboard a nearby Star Destroyer. And Disney, themselves, are calling Rise of the Resistance their “most epic attraction that anyone has ever done.”
Disney has already confirmed the impressive technology we can expect to see on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. Yet they’re so confident that Rise of the Resistance is “the most epic” of the two new attractions.
“It’s more than just a ride. It’s a cinematic immersive experience.”~ John Larena, executive creative director, Walt Disney Imagineering
While the trackless car that has released in pictures and now at the Star wars Celebration in Chicago is impressive, trackless vehicles are not a new thing for Disney.
So, what could top flying the Millennium Falcon? A 28-minute multi-experience attraction sounds pretty “epic” to me.
New Coca-Cola Bottles
Coca Cola has a long standing partnership with Disney, so it makes sense that they would collaborate again to create a coke container that is exclusive to Galaxy’s Edge.
Written in Aurebesh, these pop bottles are created to look like something that was pulled out of a ship or left behind, being repurposed into something to hold your drinks in.
The fact that the wrapping is translated into Aurebesh is just the kind of attention to detail that I love and appreciate. Disney didn’t have to create brand new bottles. We would buy the product anyway, since coca-cola a brand that we all know. But, the fact that they would go out of their way to create something that would look authentic in Batuu, is amazing.
So, are you excited yet? I’d love to hear your reactions to what has been released about Star Wars: Galaxy’s’ Edge so far.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens on May 31, 2019 at Disneyland in California and August 29, 2019 at Walt Disney World in Florida.
Stay tuned for information on how to get your tickets to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland. Those details have not been released by Disney yet.
