What We Learned About Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge From The Star Wars Celebration

April 14, 2019

If you missed The Star Wars Show Life from Chicago, there are a few new things that we learned about Galaxy’s Edge.

Although all of my questions have yet to be answered, one thing is for sure…Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge sounds awesome.

What We Learned About Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

The Future of Star Wars in the Disney Parks

Play Disney App

If you’ve been to Walt Disney World or Disneyland recently, you probably already have their respective Apps on your phone.

But, when Galaxy’s Edge opens, the App will update to add the Star Wars universe.

Even if you’ve used the app before, the new interaction is going to be completely different.

Play Disney App - Bringing Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge to life in the Disney Parks

Your phone will turn into a Star Wars Data Pad. Using this Data Pad, there will be 4 key functions that you will use to interact with Galaxy’s Edge.

  • Hack – Interact with droids, lights, and props
  • Scan – Scan cargo crates around Batuu to discover what is inside them
  • Translate – Use your phone to translate text written in Aurebesh into English
  • Tune – You can eavesdrop on different stories and conversations

Interactive Game

To further your immersion into the Star Wars Universe, there will be an interactive game called Outpost Control.

Your choices effect the way the story unveils around you, so you must decide…will you help the light side or the dark side?

Smuggler’s Run will open with the Grand Opening of Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida.

Live out your dreams of flying the Millennium Falcon

Simulated rides are nothing new for Disney. But, the fact that you actually control the Millennium Falcon is something that they’ve never done before.

And since there are so many variables that can take place on this attraction, no two experiences will be the same.

Pilots will have to maneuver around obstacles.

Gunners will have to defend the ship, using blasters.

And the engineers will need to make real-time repairs, so you can continue your journey.

Your choices predict your outcome

Whether or not your flight crew is successful is completely up to you and your fellow Guests.

If you are successful in your mission, your hallway to the exit will be pristine and flawless.

If you were unsuccessful, your hallway will be broken, with the sounds of broken electrical lines and the views of the inside of a banged up Millennium Falcon.

The Star Wars Show Life! speaking about what we can expect to see when Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens in Disneyland and Walt Disney World

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Rise of the Resistance will not open with the Grand Opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in either Disneyland or Walt Disney World. Details about when Rise of the Resistance will open will be released at a later date.

If Smugglers Run sounds epic, Rise of the Resistance will knock your socks off.

This attractions is set to be the most epic attraction that anyone has ever done. You can just see the emotion on the Imagineers’ faces when they speak of Rise of the Resistance.

Ride Experience

You will join the resistance, ending up as a prisoner of the first order. During this time, you will come face to face with familiar faces, such as Kylo Ren, Rey, and even BB-8.

Multi-Experience Attraction?

Rise of the Resistance will be a multi-experience attraction, taking you through 4 different “attractions” over approximately 28-minutes!

While everything is yet to be revealed, according to D23, your journey will take you inside a full-size starship and aboard a nearby Star Destroyer.

Disney has already confirmed the impressive technology we can expect to see on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. Yet that is nothing compared to what they’re saying about Rise of the Resistance.

I just hope that their buildup is all they’re saying it is.

New Coca-Cola Bottles for Galaxy’s Edge?

Coca Cola has a long standing partnership with Disney, so it makes sense that they would collaborate again to create a coke container, exclusive to Galaxy’s Edge.

Written in Aurebesh, these pop bottles are created to look like something that was pulled out of a ship or left behind, being repurposed into something to hold your drinks in.

The fact that the wrapping is translated into Aurebesh is just the kind of attention to detail that the Disney community appreciates. Disney didn’t have to create brand new bottles. We would buy the product anyway, since coca-cola a brand that we all know.

But, the fact that they would go out of their way to create something that would look authentic in Batuu, is amazing…even if the backstory seems a little dirty

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens on May 31, 2019 at Disneyland and August 29, 2019 in Walt Disney World.
